Wasim Akram Believes India ‘not Taking International Series Seriously’

Team India has been slammed for their poor performance in the T20 World Cup 2021. The Men in Blue may be out of the semi-final race after losing their first two games against Pakistan and New Zealand. Virat Kohli’s side entered the competition as favorites.

But they couldn’t live up to the hype and are now in the last position in Group 2. While the star-studded batting line-up collapsed, the experienced bowling attack also failed. Wasim Akram, like several other cricketers, is disappointed with India’s performance.

Surprisingly, he stated India’s defeat was due to their lack of interest in playing limited-overs cricket. India’s last significant white-ball series before the T20 World Cup 2021 came against England in March, said the great. Although Indian players took part in the just-ended IPL 2021, Akram feels international cricket is a different animal.

“India last played a limited-overs series with all the senior players in March. Now we are in November. So that shows they are not taking those international series seriously. They think playing the IPL is enough,” Akram said on A Sports following India’s defeat to New Zealand.

“You play as much league cricket in the world that you want. While playing league cricket, you will find one or two good bowlers in the opposition. In international cricket, you will face all five good bowlers,” he added.

India currently has three league games left. The Men in Blue must now rely on other outcomes in addition to winning all of their games.
