Every year car designers are working harder and harder to make cars a safer place to be. We have seen great advancements and progression that will protect people and lower the number of people killed in accidents. Each year more models are released that are safer than the last. Although if we don’t do anything about our driving skills for example signing up to take a defensive driving course can improve your awareness and enlighten your driving skills, or wearing a seat belt can greatly reduce your chances of dying or getting severely injured in a car accident.
Every year the IIHS releases a list of cars that they say are the safest cars that you can drive on the road today. This is a great honor for these car manufactures because it means that people will trust them and buy their cars to protect their children and family. The list for the 2013 models includes the:
Acura TL
Dodge Avenger and its twin, the Chrysler 200 4-door
Ford Fusion
Honda Accord 2-door
Honda Accord 4-door
Kia Optima
Nissan Altima 4-door
Subaru Legacy and its twin, the Subaru Outback
Suzuki Kizashi
Volkswagen Passat
Volvo S60
The IIHS rates their vehicles based on how they handle many of the tests that they are put through. Such as frontal crash, small overlap frontal crash, side hits, rollers, and much more. So basically they take these cars and smash them up the best they can and take it through every possible scenario. So if it’s a major accident or just as simple as a fender bender, these guys have tested it. They test each makes about 4-5 times to make sure their results are more accurate. They also check out the interior of the car to see how they withhold these accidents and testing. Basically, making sure the car will withstand, but the steering wheel won’t come loose and kill you. They rank all their cars with either good, acceptable, marginal, or poor performances. Long story short, if your car passes these tests you know you can trust it.
As the year progresses we will see more of the cars out on the streets because people put their trust into the car companies’ hands. These are good car companies that everyone already trusts. Just imagine that you have a newborn child, you would want to do anything you can to protect your child. That child means the world to you and you need to make sure that it is safe at all times. Most of these cars and models are decent prices, so people can afford them. Most sports cars are not usually as safe because they are designed to be more aerodynamic to go faster. Hopefully, this list will help you understand what cars are safe and what cars you can trust.
