Spurs Problems Mount as They are Beaten by Burnley
Burnley won consecutive Premier League matches for the first time in 13 months, as captain Ben Mee scored the only goal in a 1-0 victory over Tottenham at a rain-soaked Turf Moor.
Mee leapt over Cristian Romero to perfectly receive Josh Brownhill’s 71st-minute far-post free-kick and direct it past Hugo Lloris into the far corner.
It earned Burnley a victory that moves them within two points of safety – and within striking distance of three of the four teams directly above them, considering Sean Dyche’s side still have games in hand.
Burnley could even afford for Jay Rodriguez to squander a great opportunity to seal win seven minutes from time when he turned the ball over from three yards with the goal at his mercy.
However, this was a painfully disappointing night for top-four contenders Tottenham, who looked like a shell of the team who defeated league leaders Manchester City on Saturday.
After a lackluster first half, captain Harry Kane hinted at a brighter second half when he headed against the bar at the start of the second half.
Just before Burnley’s opener, Dejan Kulusevski came close, with Nick Pope saving from Steven Bergwijn in the visitors’ desperate search for an equaliser.
