Senegal defeated Egypt 4-2 on penalties to clinch their first-ever Africa Cup of Nations title after the final went goalless after extra time.
The Liverpool forward had already seen a penalty saved by Pharaoh’s goalkeeper Gabaski in the seventh minute.
Edouard Mendy of Chelsea denied Mohanad Lasheen, allowing Mane to win it in Yaounde’s Olembe Stadium.
Gabaski had made three excellent stops in extra time from Senegal’s Bamba Dieng.
And in a contest billed as a showdown between Liverpool’s Senegalese striker Mane and Egypt’s skipper Mohamed Salah, it was the former who had the final say.
Senegal has finally won the Africa Cup of Nations after two previous final defeats, while Egypt missed out on a record-extending eighth continental crown, which would have also been Salah’s first.
