Rafael Benitez has been relieved of his managerial duties at Everton after less than seven months in command.
In June, the Toffees chose the 61-year-old former Liverpool manager as Carlo Ancelotti’s successor.
The club says it will provide an update on a permanent successor in due course.
Everton called an emergency board meeting on Saturday to examine Benitez’s future following the club’s ninth league defeat in the previous 12 games.
Everton’s traveling contingent demanded that Benitez “leave our club,” while a supporter invaded the pitch to confront the Spaniard.
Benitez, who previously managed Newcastle United in the Premier League, departs Everton with an overall win percentage of 31.8 percent – his lowest win percentage in command of an English team.
