Parker Lone Goal Sees Kaizer Chiefs Beat Maritzburg United
Bernard Parker, Kaizer Chiefs’ all-time leading scorer, scored the game’s sole goal as the Amakhosi defeated Maritzburg United 1-0 on Sunday.
Ramahlwe Mphahlele and Reeve Frosler were restored to the Maritzburg side in place of Sibusiso Mabiliso and Njabulo Blom.
Chiefs pressed their opponents in the early moments and could have grabbed the lead after two minutes when Billiat’s left-wing corner was wastefully headed over from point-blank range by an unopposed Njabulo Ngcobo.
The Team of Choice steadily battled their way back into the fight and answered when Keegan Ritchie cut onto his left from the right and crossed for Bongokuhle Hlongwane, but the Bafana Bafana striker deflected the ball over the face of goal and out for a corner kick.
The game featured minimal goalmouth action, with most of the action taking place in midfield.

Hlongwane was causing havoc and sprinted at the Chiefs defense in the 36th minute before unleashing a thunderous attempt that flew past the bar.
Amakhosi took control of the game in the second half, gradually increasing their possession.
The Amakhosi maintained their calm and composure as they searched for an opportunity in the closing third.
They did, though, take the lead through a set piece. Keagan Dolly took the short corner short to Billiat, who sent it into the box for an unmarked Parker to head home after the Maritzburg defense moved out.
The goal galvanized Maritzburg, who started throwing people forward in pursuit of an equalizer. Rowan Human came off the bench for the Team of Choice and had a chance to make an impact with a right-footed shot that went wide.
However, Chiefs easily saw out the game to earn their fifth victory of the season and move three points ahead of Orlando Pirates atop the DStv Premiership table.
