Liverpool draws with Palace despite Nunez’s red card

Liverpool and Crystal Palace drew 1-1 in the Premier League at Anfield on Monday, with Darwin Nunez sent off for a headbutt on his home debut.

Liverpool dominated the first half, but Zaha stunned the home crowd with a 32nd-minute counterattack goal.

It was the sixth league game in a row that Liverpool conceded first, despite having 75% possession and 17 shots (just 3 on target).

Nunez’s scuffed shot hit the post and Virgil van Dijk missed the rebound.

The Uruguayan international, recently signed from Benfica, was awarded a straight red card in the 57th minute for an alleged head-butt on Joachim Andersen.

Luis Diaz tied the game in the 61st minute after being sent off. He cut in from the left and curled the ball past Vicente Guaita’s despairing dive.

Zaha ghosted behind the defence but volleyed a low cross from Cheick Oumar Doucoure off the far post.

Liverpool came close to taking the lead several times, but Palace held on for their first point of the season. The home side has now drawn their first two games.
