Sunday’s final sets up an intriguing showdown between Liverpool forwards Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane at the same venue – Cameroon’s capital Yaounde’s Olembe Stadium.
Cameroon’s hosts had the better of the first 90 minutes, hitting the post twice through Michael Ngadeu-looping Ngadjui’s header and Samuel Gouet’s thundering long-range shot that smacked the woodwork.
Salah was kept quiet for the majority of the game, looping a strike from outside the box barely over and almost benefitting from a misplaced back ball, but he was unable to convert.
However, he was not need to step up in the shootout, as Cameroon missed three attempts, with Gabaski saving from Harold Moukoudi and James Lea Siliki, while Clinton N’Jie side-footed wide.
After an ill-tempered conclusion to normal time, Egypt coach Carlos Queiroz was sent off for arguing with the referee, while his assistant Wael Gomaa was also reprimanded.
