Chelsea extended their advantage at the top of the Premier League to four points with a 7-0 thrashing of Norwich on Saturday, while Newcastle’s quest for a Premier League victory continued with a 1-1 draw at Crystal Palace.
Mason Mount scored a hat-trick for Thomas Tuchel’s team, while Callum Hudson-Odoi, Reece James, and Ben Chilwell all scored, while Max Aaron’s own goal summed up a miserable day for the Canaries.
Mount had been without a goal since May, and Tuchel praised his return to form with Lukaku and Werner expected to be sidelined for an extended period.
Mount also produced the assist for James’ 3-0 goal, finally ending the game just before half-time.
“It’s a special day, not just for me but because of the scoreline and the way we played,” Mount told BBC Match of the Day.
Blues boss Tuchel said Mount’s hat-trick was a “massive moment” for the 22-year-old, though he played down his side’s title prospects.
“I felt him a bit lighter, plays with a bit more freedom in the last matches. This is what we need,” said Tuchel.
“You don’t find any manager in the world who gives you a statement on favorites for the title race in October. We are where we are and we know what we want to do.”
