Charles Leclerc wins in Australian Grand Prix as rival Max Verstappen retires

Charles Leclerc won the Australian Grand Prix by a comfortable margin, putting him in the top position of the  Championship.

When his primary challenger Max Verstappen exited with a mechanical issue on his Red Bull at two-thirds distance, the Ferrari driver was in complete control of the race.

Verstappen is behind Leclerc by 46 points, or almost two victories, after just three races, two of which the Red Bull has failed to complete.

Sergio Perez of Red Bull finished second after defeating Mercedes George Russell and Lewis Hamilton.

Surprisingly, given Mercedes’ poor start to the season, Russell is now second in the drivers’ standings while Mercedes is second in the constructors’ standings.
