Champions League: Karim Benzema assists Real eliminate PSG

Real Madrid advanced to the quarter-finals after a 3-2 aggregate win over PSG at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Toni Kroos and Federico Valverde rejoined Marco Asensio in midfield, while Kylian Mbappe returned from injury to join Neymar and Lionel Messi up front.

In the 25th minute, Benzema had a curling effort from the edge of the box saved by Gianluigi Donnarumma.

In the second half, Mbappe extended PSG’s lead after having a goal disallowed for offside.

Benzema equalised for Los Blancos on the hour mark, reducing the deficit to 1-2 on aggregate, after a square feed from Vinicius Junior, who benefitted on a defensive blunder by Donnarumma.

Benzema scored 14 minutes from time after Luka Modric’s threaded pass handed Carlo Ancelotti’s side the lead.

Two minutes later, after a cut-back by Vinicius Junior, the Frenchman completed his hat-trick by flicking a first-time attempt past Donnarumma.
