Billiat goal, assist gives Kaizer Chiefs victory Against Maritzburg United
Kaizer Chiefs closed the year with a 2-0 DStv Premiership win against Maritzburg United on Wednesday at FNB Stadium.
Amakhosi earned all three points thanks to goals from Khama Billiat and Nkosingiphile Ngcobo.
The result moves Chiefs into third place, with Orlando Pirates hosting AmaZulu on Thursday.
Maritzburg ended the year 13th.
After 30 minutes, Njabulo Blom pounced on a Keagan Dolly through pass to score Amakhosi’s first goal.
He sprinted forward before firing a low cross into Billiat, who tapped it home from close range.
Dolly’s deep-lying cross from the right side was perfectly timed for Siphosakhe Ntiya-Ntiya to extend Chiefs’ advantage.
The 26-year-old scuffed his attempt despite having adequate time to handle the ball.
Maritzburg couldn’t have wished for a better opportunity to equalize after the interval.
Bongokuhle Hlongwane pounced on a loose ball in the Chiefs penalty area, but Daniel Akpeyi gloved the ball away.
A Keegan Ritchie corner-kick struck the post minutes later, surprising Chiefs.
The Team of Choice pressed for an equalizer, but despite losing Njabulo Ngcobo to injury, Cole Alexander kept calm.

Phathutshedzo Nange was the third Chiefs player to get injured, allowing Ngcobo to participate.
Dolly’s precise crossing found Billiat in a dangerous attacking position. Daylon Claasen’s defensive play hindered the Zimbabwean from hitting the target.
Billiat would make up for the lost chance by scoring the second goal.
Ngcobo finished beautifully with a curling left-foot shot to ensure Chiefs ended the year with three points.
