Australian Open: Naomi Osaka loses to Amanda Anisimova in Melbourne

Naomi Osaka, the defending champion, has been eliminated from the Australian Open after American Amanda Anisimova survived two match points her route to a dramatic third-round triumph.

At Melbourne Park, Japan’s Osaka, 24, was defeated 4-6, 6-3, 7-6 (10-5).

Anisimova, 20, will face top-seeded Ashleigh Barty of Australia in the last 16.

Barty is remains undefeated this week after defeating Italy’s Camila Giorgi 6-2, 6-3.

“Going into this match I knew I had to be playing sharp if I wanted to give myself a chance. She [Osaka] is an absolute champion so I knew I would have to step up my game and be aggressive.
