AmaZulu Beat Maritzburg United 1-0

AmaZulu defeated Maritzburg United 1-0 in the DStv Premiership on Saturday.

Usuthu recalled Philani Zulu, Abbubaker Mobara, and Xola Mlambo from their victory against Baroka FC, while United recalled Genino Palace and Lucky Baloyi.

Palace’s deflected attempt from beyond the area required a scrambling stop from AmaZulu goalkeeper Veli Mothwa on the goal line.

Fifth-minute Skelem sought to wake United up as Usuthu failed to cope with a second ball from a corner kick.

Maritzburg had a good run of possession but was lucky not to be two goals behind when Luvuyo Memela missed a good opportunity.

The hosts fought hard to find their second but were again undone by ill-timed decisions and hasty attempts.

Both Usuthu and Team of Choice fought hard in the final moments, but the host emerged victoriously.

After 10 minutes, Lehlohonolo Majoro surged through the defensive line to score a close-range goal.

In the 21st minute, a low cross into the box bobbled about until Nicholas Lukhubeni surged and bundled past his own goalie.

Maritzburg reacted to Usuthu’s dominance with Amadou Soukouna, Nazeer Allie, Leletu Skelem, and Rowan Human.
